The Hokkaido is a recognized as a breed by the following USA-based kennel clubs:
- American Kennel Club (in the Foundation Stock Service group)
- United Kennel Club (in the Northern group)
- International Canine Kennel Club (in the Spitz & Primitive group)
- American Rare Breed Association (in the Spitz-Primitive group)
- International Canine Events
- International All Breed Canine Association
Finding an AKC Show
Use the AKC Event and Awards Search page. There are search tabs for Conformation, Open Show Conformation, 4-6 Month Beginner Puppy, and Companion Events (Obedience/Agility/AKC Rally®).
As the Hokkaido is not yet a fully recognized breed with the AKC, you will need to click the tab for “Open Show Conformation” if you plan to show your Hokkaido in the breed ring. The Hokkaido can enter ANY of the Companion Events open to all AKC registered dogs though.

Finding a UKC Show
Use the UKC Upcoming Events page. There drop down menus to search by month, state, zip code, etc. Choose to search by zip code, and determine how far you are willing to travel to attend an event by choosing a radius. Hit “Go” and scroll down. A list of upcoming shows in your area will pop up.
You may also choose to search by month using the UKC Upcoming Events page. Click the month you are interested in and scroll down. A list of upcoming shows categorized by state and the month you selected will pop up.

Other Show Resources
Many kennel clubs will have an upcoming events calendar listed on their website. Many of the smaller kennel clubs have shows which are very few and far between. Nonetheless, HANA encourages members to get out and show with their Hokkaido to help introduce new people to this growing breed!
